A couple of things struct me as I read this piece, Cory.
Sears, if I recall correctly, closed down their catalog operations in the 90s about the same time Amazon launched. The Sears catalog, in it's hayday, contained just about everything, aside from groceries, that people needed to live. Sears had whearhouses, and a shipping opperation thar reache everyone. Sears gradually fell out of favor as the middle class grew more prosperous, people moved to cities and suburbs, and shopping became the national sport.
Sears could have become what Amazon is but didn't.
The demise of the once powerful Sears makes me wonder what shift in technology or demographic trend could topple Amazon?
Second, Amazon has become so woven into every transaction that we do it has from my view a utility. A utility like electricity or water or sewage ot the fire department. We use it because it's the easiest way to get the things we need that we don't want to shop for.
Could Amazon be nationalized and turned into a utility that we all own?
Thanks for your post Cory. I love what you do!
