"The act of adopting a child can be perceived as an assertion of power and control over another person’s life."

Man, that was so true for me. My adoptive father was a WWII vet and, I suspect, suffered from PTSD. He and his wife celebrated their status as "good people" for adopting this poor, needy child. I've written about growing up with them on Medium. Thank you for your thought-provoking post.
